Beneficiary of the week: Letlotlo Modise

Letlotlo Modise is a 26-year-old vibrant young man from Kuruman in Northern Cape and he is the owner of Tre’ Culture Aquaponics, a form of agriculture in which vegetables, fruits and herbs are grown in a soil-less system.

He combines aquaculture (raising fish) and hydroponics (the soil-less growing of plants) to grow fish and plants together in one integrated system. The NYDA assisted Letlotlo with a Grant Funding valued at R50, 000 to purchase equipment comprising of, but not limited to Fish Tanks, Water Tank and a Walk-in Greenhouse, for his aquaponics system.
With this form of agriculture, Letlotlo is able to sustainably maximise production and improve efficiency, while reducing the usage of water. He manages his business with the assistance of his father and currently operates at the back of his parents’ home. His future goal is to expand and supply retailers in his Province and beyond.
“I would like to thank the NYDA for assisting me with funding and non-financial support to realise my dream of opening the aquaponics system. As young people, we need keep on working towards our goals, no matter the situation we find ourselves in, said Letlotlo.
