National Youth Day Commemoration 2017
The year 2017 marks 41 years since the June 16, 1976 which saw young people in Soweto lose their lives in a fight against the apartheid government for freedom and the creation of a democratic state. The uprising spread throughout the country and saw even more young people lose their lives.
Each year in June, as a country we commemorate Youth Month as an act of remembrance and celebration of the youth of 1976 who took a bold stand which had a significant impact in the history of South Africa.
The #YouthDay2017 Commemoration will take place at Tshing Extension 2 Sports Ground in Ventersdorp, North West under the theme: "The year of OR Tambo: Advancing Youth Economic Empowerment."

The Department of Arts & Culture in partnership with the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) and the North West Provincial Government and other government stakeholders, will be hosting various youth-focused activities and initiatives leading up to the commemoration on June 16, throughout the province.
