  NYDA Secunda Branch Part of the SA TVET Colleges ICT Conference 2016

 
On the 13 – 15 April 2016, the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) Secunda Branch participated in the 2nd ICT Conference for SA TVET Colleges in partnership with the Department of Higher Education and Training and Gert Sibande TVET College under the theme: Inspiration for Integrated Innovation and Information.
The goal of the conference was to enhance teaching and learning through technology. The 2nd SA TVET COLLEGES ICT Conference 2016 brought together researchers and practitioner from all areas, in order to support the bridging process between Education and Training and Information Communication Technology (ICT).
The aim and objectives of the Conference were to:
  • Promote entrepreneurship in ICT education as a path to economic growth and job creation.
  • Develop widespread awareness of the benefits & value of ICT for TVET staff and students society thereby enhancing the application of eLearning and Correspondence as a mode of content delivery.
  • Encourage TVET Colleges in SA to discover the new and exciting world of technologically rich teaching and learning methodologies in and outside the lecturing room.
  • Solicit applications from ePioneers and ePractitioners to present papers with the exclusive aim to promote and enhance eLearning in the TVET sector of SA.
  • Propose techniques/methods that explores a holistic, multi-disciplinary approach to blended learning challenges in the academic world of a tech-savvy generation
The NYDA's role in the conference was to exhibit and promote entrepreneurship in ICT as well as promote ICT education as a path to economic growth and job creation for young people of South Africa.
The Minister of Science and Technology, Ms Naledi Pandor was the guest speaker at the conference. She urged youth to make use of technology as the TVET sector introduces the e-Learning Programmme. The Minister noted that the country is not investing enough in science, technology and innovation and if this trend doesn’t change it will impact negatively to the growth of our economy.

Amongst the exhibitors was Pearson, SEDA, ProQuest, Google, EOH, Future Managers, Macmillan Education, Adapt IT, Oxford, Syfferdt Publishers and MPU Copiers.
