Profile of Thembisile Mahuwa

Board Member
Thembisile Mahuwa is a multi-award winning South African lawyer, human rights advocate, and governance specialist with extensive experience in youth leadership, gender equality, and inclusive policy development. She holds a Law Degree, an Honours Degree in Policy Making, and is completing a Master of Laws (LLM) in International Human Rights.  

With over a decade of experience, she has worked across government, international organisations, traditional leadership structures, and civil society, contributing to policy development, stakeholder engagement, and access to justice initiatives.  

She serves as Founder and Director of the Aido Network Youth International Chapter, former Board Secretary of Aido International, Board Member at BlackGirlsRead, and heads the African Lawyers Alliance Knowledge Hub.  

Thembisile is recognised for her impactful legal and advocacy work and has received numerous accolades, including Mail & Guardian’s 200 Young South Africans, Gauteng Legislature Outstanding Youth Philanthropist Award and the Sunday World Unsung Hero Award inter alia.  

She is actively engaged in continental and global leadership platforms advancing inclusive governance and social justice.
